The Organisation for Skills Development and Social Assistance (OSDASA) organises wheelchair and medical equipment distribution and blood donation events, supporting projects for rural schools and medical camps and providing intraocular lenses to cataract patients. We have dedicated doctors, medical staff, and other volunteers to serve in these events.
Currently, OSDASA is focusing in projects in the Galle districts of Sri Lanka.
People in rural areas in Sri Lanka have difficulty affording wheelchairs and walkers. Some rural hospitals are also lacking wheelchairs, walkers, and medical equipment. With the support from “Wheelchairs for Sri Lanka (WC4SL),” the volunteer group based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, we provide wheelchairs and medical equipment to needy people and hospitals.
Hospitals in Sri Lanka have a shortage of blood, and we organise blood donor events to collect blood for their blood banks.
To consult medical specialists, patients in rural areas have to go to cities. Aside from difficulties in transportation and long lines to see the physicians, some people cannot afford to spend on consulting fees. OSDASA organised two medical camps in the Pitigala area to treat patients.
Many cataract eye patients in Sri Lanka cannot afford to buy intraocular lenses and required medicine. We have provided intraocular lenses and medicine for some of them.
Most of the children in the G/Bangamukanda School are impoverished and do not have school bags. OSDASA provided bags for all kids in the school.
The G/Walpola Gunatilake School lacked funding to protect the school building. We provided three gates to the school.
